How long do I need to wait if I have a dental emergency?

Is implant placement painful?

No, it is usually performed under local anaesthesia in the dental surgery, and in many cases less traumatic than a tooth extraction.

Will my insurance cover cosmetic dental treatment?

It depends what the procedure is and your level of cover. A list of item numbers can be given so you can  check with your healthcare provider.

My teeth are crooked or have spaces. Do I have to get braces to fix them?

It depends, in most cases braces are the best approach. However in some cases, other methods can be used such as veneers.

I have chipped teeth, what can be done?

Small chips can be repaired with composite composite (tooth coloured) fillings. In some cases where the chips are bigger, veneers or crowns may be needed.

Is treatment expensive? Can I pay it off?

Depending on the treatment, some procedures can be quite costly. We don’t offer payment plans, but we can put you in touch with companies that do offer payment plans such as GE Money Care Credit and Mediplan.

What about pain after the procedure ?

The discomfort you may feel should be minor, and you will be prescribed medication to alleviate any pain, most patients report very little need for the use of painkillers.

How long with the procedure to place the implant last?

Usually between 30-45 minutes for the first implant and then 15 minutes for each additional implant.

What can I eat after the surgery ?

We generally recommend a soft diet for a few days, after the procedure.

How long does the entire procedure, from initial implant consultation, definitive assessment, surgical procedure and final prosthetic rehab

 Depending on your treatment plan, the entire process can take from between 3 to 9 months.

How do I care for my implant and new tooth/teeth ?

Home care consists of regular brushing and careful flossing. Also regular dental visits are required for long term health and success.

How long does an implant last ?

Once your body accepts the implant and the fixture has integrated successfully, it should last for many years. Many implants have been in place for more than 40 years. However, the tooth or prosthesis on top of the implant may require maintenance or replacement.

Can I get rid of silver fillings?

Yes. Silver fillings (Amalgam) can be replaced with tooth coloured materials.
